2019 arrived faster than a speeding bullet for us and our sister brand SPARK THINKING, as some very special guests KAPOWED through the door with a WHOOOOSH and made a crouched, one-hand-on-the-ground superhero-style landing at our Ashby-de-la-Zouch headquarters on 3 January!
The ‘mini-mes’ of our staff were invited to attend the ‘MiniLab’ – a specially-created event inspired by the successful grown up version – The Lab. The Lab, this year entering its seventh year, is an interactive professional development and supplier relationship event for our UK-based staff and takes place each summer.
The theme of 2018’s Lab was ‘The Power of You’ and focused on unleashing the individual strengths of our team members to highlight how collectively they help create solutions for clients. Similarly, the MiniLab, had a superhero theme and was aimed at ‘uncovering your incredible super powers and planning a party to celebrate everyone’s special talents’ as the specially-designed invitation explained.
Starting the day by creating their own name badge, which needed to include details on what they considered their superhero power to be, the 28 delegates aged between 4 and 12 were soon off on a treasure hunt around the building to help them conduct their very own pre-event ‘site visit’. After probing their family members for clues, the chocolate treasure was quickly found and it was time to move on to arts and crafts for a bit of ‘environmental branding’ for the afternoon’s party.
Organising the ‘F&B’ was the activity after lunch for the next generation of event professionals, as superhero-inspired cupcake and gingerbread decorating was on the agenda. This was followed by an insight into AV and production as the children helped set up the lighting and chose songs for their party playlist.
And what was the result of a fun, superhero and event-themed day of activities? The flawless delivery of a party that more than achieved its objectives of course!
“What a fantastic day – my 9 and 11-year-old daughters loved it!” said Marketing Communications Manager, Fiona Geeson. “I particularly liked the wording on the invitations – ‘We need you to bring your creative brains, smiley faces and superhero attitude to help make this event a success!’ I think this is a tick list our staff demonstrate in their roles every day and it was brilliant to see it reflected in such a unique event for our children.”
Janina Monaghan, Head of Organisational development added, “This was the second year we’ve run the MiniLab as it was deemed such a success last year. Our ‘mini delegates’ love it because not only do they get to see where mummy or daddy come to work every day, but they also gain an insight into what we do for clients through activities they enjoy. Hopefully we’ve inspired a few event professionals of the future!”
